Look what I can do

I usually just ramble on about some random topic or another but I thought I would actually do something productive with my blog today...now don't everyone have a stroke all at once lol

The first thing I'm going to show you is my first upcycled t shirt scarf.

You will need:

1 XL white t shirt (I used a Jerzee brand shirt because I got them for $2.25 each at my local JoAnn Fabrics but I think for the next one I'm going to use a Fruit of the Loom undershirt. Those seem to be much stretchier and easier to warp)

Fabric dye of your choice (I used powdered Rit in Fuschia-it was the cheapest)

What I did:

I used a pair of kitchen scissors and cut the bottom hem off the shirt and then straight across from one armpit to the other so all I had left was the midsection. Next time I do this I will be using a rotary cutter because it was A) a pain in the tail to cut with dull scissors and B) looked kinda raggedy. I am saving the scraps for another project that I'll share with you when I get it done. To dye the material I followed the directions on the box (I did the sink method-which reminds me I have fuschia dye to scrub out of my kitchen sink oops) and then I dipped about a third of the shirt in long way and left it for 5 minutes. I then dipped the second third in for another 5 minutes (leaving the already dyed part in the water) and after that I dropped the whole thing in the dye for an additional 5 minutes. I suggest using gloves to rinse the material I didn't have any so I used two pairs of tongs until the water running off the shirt was no longer pink and then I used my hands to ring out the excess water. I threw it in the dryer to dry and set the dye and when I got it out I stretched it to high Heaven. I stepped in it while I pulled and yanked it so it resembled a long stretched out circle of cotton. I'm going to try a "stringy scarf" with the other shirt I bought that day so we'll see how that turns out.
